Description of ASTM-F3755/F3755M 2025ASTM F3755/F3755M-25Active Standard: Standard Test Method for Determining the Arc Rating Limit and Arc Ignition Withstand of Rubber Insulating SleevesASTM F3755/F3755MScope 1.1 This test method is used to determine the ignition withstand and the arc rating limit (ARLim) of rubber insulating sleeves specifically intended for protection from electric shock, but which may also be exposed to an arc flash. The ignition withstand and the arc rating (ARLim) are determined in the test with an arc which has a heat flux value of 2100 kW/m2 [50 cal/cm2/s]. 1.2 It is the intent of this test method to be used to test rubber insulating sleeves meeting Specification D1051 or IEC 60984. 1.2.1 This test method is not suitable for determining electrical protective properties of rubber insulating sleeves and does not apply to electrical contact or electrical shock hazards. 1.3 This test method is used to evaluate the properties of rubber insulating sleeves in response to convective and radiant energy generated by an electric arc under controlled laboratory conditions. 1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. 1.5 This standard shall not be used to describe or appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of this test may be used as elements of a fire assessment that takes into account all of the factors which are pertinent to an assessment of the fire hazard of a particular end use. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For specific precautions, see Section 7. 1.7 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
