Feeney Inc. Railings are often one of the most important parts of a deck or stair project because of the safety and security they provide, but they can offer character, style, and beauty as well as functionality. Today's railing systems present many possibilities to create a unique design perfectly suited to the project needs. This course examines high-strength, powder-coated aluminum railings, from code considerations to installation and maintenance. It presents the versatile, mix-and-match capability of finishes, top rail styles, lighting, and infill options that offer long-lasting, easy-to-install solutions for residential and commercial applications. 60 minutes.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss code and fastener requirements to ensure a safe and secure railing system.
  • Select the appropriate post, mounting, and top rail options to provide optimal structural strength and design performance for specific usage and load conditions.
  • Appraise the infill design options that meet various project needs ranging from privacy and security to light control and visibility.
  • Recall accessories that enhance functionality and user safety such as gates and lighting.
  • Explain proper installation, care, and maintenance methods that contribute to the long life of components including those installed in acid rain or salt-heavy locations.

Faculty BIO

Alejandra Zeledon is Feeney's National Training Director responsible for corporate, field, and CEU programs nationwide. She provides leadership and technical instruction in material selection, frame construction, and product installation to retailers, designers, installers, and the Feeney sales team. Alejandra has over 15 years of multi-industry experience in corporate training and holds a Master of Science in Communication from Regis College in Massachusetts.
