Expand Your Views: The Benefits of Shadecloth Selection on Daylight, Health, & Comfort, 2023
CEU: 0.125 | CEU Code: MS-EN-130202-1223

Our built environment must be optimized to create comfortable and healthier spaces. Shading systems can be used to enhance our spaces by providing optimal daylight and comfort to create an ideal indoor environment. This course reviews the performance, aesthetics, and material health of various shadecloth compositions and how each factor contributes to the shadecloth selection process.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how proper shadecloth selection aligns with a project's daylighting goals.
  • Identify common shadecloth compositions and their environmental profiles and how they compare in ability to reduce glare and heat gain.
  • Define solar optical properties and their impact on shadecloth performance and occupant health, comfort, and well-being.
  • Review how to balance shadecloth performance, aesthetics, and sustainability in order to select a solution that meets the project's requirements.
